Designed for the Place We Call Home
Norfolk faces environmental challenges that require us to think differently about how we design and maintain our outdoor spaces.
Our region is surrounded by waterways, wetlands, and low-lying coastal land. Heavy rainfall, tidal flooding, stormwater runoff, and aging drainage infrastructure all affect our communities.
Our landscapes can be part of the solution.
Native plants are adapted to local conditions and can provide valuable habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. Once established, many native plants can also require less supplemental irrigation and maintenance than plants that are poorly suited to our region.
Trees and vegetation provide shade, improve habitat, and help create more comfortable and inviting neighborhoods. Thoughtfully designed landscapes can also help manage rainwater where it falls rather than sending all of that water toward already-stressed drainage systems.

Root & Bloom was inspired by professional experience in commercial interior design and sustainable building practices.
Our approach is simple: the same principles used to create functional, beautiful, and sustainable buildings can also be applied to the spaces around them.

How can we reduce unnecessary irrigation and maintenance?
How can we manage rainwater more effectively?
